Youth Outreach was established in November 1991 as a crisis intervention center for youth.

All-night Outreaching Program

Youth Outreach is a unique service among youth programs in Hong Kong. We have eight outreaching workers who go out in vans from ten at night until six in the morning scouring the streets of Hong Kong, Kowloon and the NewTerritories for ¡§Runaways & Throwaways¡¨ particularly those under the age of eighteen. In fact, the average age of the youngsters we pick up is about 12 and the youngest we have picked up was 6.

Crisis Centers (Boys¡¦ & Girls¡¦ Centers)

We take these young people back to our crisis centers located at Sai Wan Ho where we provide professional counseling to both them and their parents with the aim of getting them home as soon as possible. Our centers are small-scale family style hostels where we attempt to address the factors, which led to running away. Our centers are also unique in as much as all admission procedures are done after the youngsters have come to us. After the youngsters have returned home we follow them for a further six months. We believe that the important thing is to get them off the streets as soon as possible and out of clutches of the triads, the primps and the drug pushers.

24-hour Telephone Hotline  (Hotline: 9088-1023)

We also operate the only 24-hour hotline for young people in Hong Kong making possible an immediate response to crisis situations. We provide a round the clock service.

We deal with more than 1,000 cases on the streets each month and more than 700 residential cases each year not to mention those youngsters we help who do not actually move in to our centers. Our success rate to date is in excess of 85%.

Transitional Housing

This is for those boys who are of working age, but who are living rough in the work-place or on the streets. We provide a period of time for them to settle into a regular job as well as giving them basic life skills training. After they have stayed with us for six months we help them set themselves up in independent living and a regular job.

Youth Employment Start-up Program

Statistics shows that every year more than 70,000 youngsters are not willing to stay at home but hang around on the streets all night. These marginalized youths usually do not have specific skill of any kind. Neither do they have the qualification to hunt for a job easily in the labor market. Y.E.S. provides them a stable work platform for learning and training in order to equip them with the basic skills required as well as to regain their interest and spirit for work. Moreover, Y.E.S. helps them learn more about interpersonal relationship in the business environment. As they make progress in their work and ready to stand on their own, ¡§Youth Outreach¡¨ will help them find a permanent job elsewhere so that they can support themselves.

The training platform provided by Y.E.S. includes: Express Services, 7- Eleven (Kwun Tong & Sai Wan Ho Store), Min+ Cafe & Kitchen, Fullness Hair Salon and I.T. Development Workshop

The Hang-out

¡§The Hang-out¡¨ started up in July 2002. It is a 24-hour drop-in center gives young people a safe environment to meet with friends and engage in various activities. The services in the Drop-in Center include a convenience store that will be run as a franchise by Youth Outreach itself with the addition of a convenience store in the new Drop-inCenter, the YES Program can include front line retailing as part of its program. There will also be a Cyber-cafˆm with access to computers and the Internet. Naturally, a DJ to spin disks, a jukebox and pool tables will also be included.
